Pilot, like his father and his grandfather. Captained the
Brinckerhoff, the America, the Say When, and other tugs and ferries.
Licensed to master steam and motor vessels up to 1,000 tons. His life
traced the course of the Hudson River—from Coeymans to Poughkeepsie to
New York City. Lived in Poughkeepsie at 208 Main Street with his
wife, child, father and stepmother. Charles, his wife and son moved
to New York City around 1915 and lived on East 127th Street.
Eventually he moved to the Bronx and lived on Governeur Place. When
he was 67 years old he was jaywalking across Second Avenue at 102nd
Street and was struck by a car and killed. He married Margaret
Elizabeth SHIELDS about 1907. He was married to Margaret Elizabeth SHIELDS about
1907. Since they had only one child together, I can only surmise that they
got married about 1907.
